The 3 Most Expensive Bottles of Whisky Ever Sold At Auction

Most people don’t see $1 million dollars in their lifetime. You’re probably asking how much you can buy with that amount. The answer might shock you.

Whisky is a very popular spirit that people from all over the world enjoy. With that being said, there is one brand that seems to be very prominent in the high-end whisky market, as you will see on our list of the 3 most expensive bottles of whisky ever sold at auction!

1. Craft Irish Whiskey Co.’s The Emerald Isle Collection

Craft Irish Whiskey Co. broke records on St. Patrick’s Day 2021 when its Emerald Isle Collection in partnership with Fabergé, sold for over £1.6million.Although, technically, the Emerald Isle Collection is the most expensive whisky lot ever sold at auction, it can’t quite claim full ownership of the title as a large chunk of the value is down to the exquisitely-crafted 18k gold and emerald Fabergé Celtic Egg and 22k gold Fabergé timepiece encased in rose gold with sapphire crystals, that also comes as part of the set.

The set contains not one, but two bottles of Craft Irish Whiskey Co.’s Emerald Isle. The rare 30-year-old whiskey is the oldest triple-distilled Irish single malt in existence.

2. The Macallan 1926 60-Year-Old Fine and Rare

For high-end whisky drinkers or merely whisky fanatics, it should come as no surprise that The Macallan holds the record for the second most expensive bottles of whisky ever auctioned off. Sotheby’s was the auction house that was responsible for selling this bottle. This was the first time that a bottle of The Macallan 60-Year-Old 1926 was seen at auction in over a decade!

Sotheby’s stated: “This is the most iconic of all bottles of Scotch whisky, the essential centrepiece of any great collection.” “This bottle provides the ultimate opportunity to taste the “holy grail” of all whiskies – a once in a lifetime experience.”

3. The Macallan 1926 60-Year-Old Michael Dillon

The third place spot for most expensive whisky sold at auction is yet again, another whisky produced by The Macallan Distillery. However, this bottle of ultra-rare elixir was hand-painted by Irish artist Michael Dillon, famous for his historical decorations. The bottle is so rare that even the distillery itself was unaware of its existence until it was offered at auction.
