Dalmore distillery has been a Scottish distillery since 1839.
Dalmore distillery was established in 1839 by Alexander Matheson, who immediately leased it to the Sunderland family, who ran it for over thirty years until 1869 when the lease was taken over by three Mackenzie brothers, Alexander, Charles and Andrew.
Up until recently, Dalmore’s presence in the world of single malt was limited to their 12-year-old. However, their range has massively expanded since, with core products including 12, 15, 18 and 25-year-old whiskies.

About
The whisky distillery is located in Alness, Scotland, 20 miles north of Inverness. It sits on the banks of the Cromarty Firth, overlooking the Black Isle.
Dalmore ran relatively smoothly up until 1917 when the British Royal Navy decided to set up a site next to the distillery. In 1920, the distillery sustained massive amounts of damage due to explosions from a nearby British Royal Navy site that produced deep-sea mines. The distillery remained family-owned until 1960, at which point, Whyte & Mackay took over.
Dalmore distillery currently has 8 stills, 4 wash stills and 4 spirit stills. Two of these wash stills hold up to 16,500 litres in capacity, whereas the other 2 wash stills only hold up to 8,250 litres in capacity. Two of their spirit stills hold up to 11,000 litres in capacity, whereas the other 2 spirit stills only hold up to 7,300 litres in capacity.
During the process of its whisky creation, Dalmore used its own maltings from 1839 until 1982, when it opted to retire its own malting process and instead source malt from a distributor. Dalmore’s mash encompasses a full 10.4 tonnes of mash, with sugar and starch being washed out of the malt in 3 mashing processes. While Dalmore’s style of fermentation usually takes 45-48 hours, they go that extra step and wait 50 hours.
The warehouses at Dalmore hold some of the oldest Whisky stocks in the world. With a combined total of 9 warehouses, Dalmore boasts a holding capacity of a massive 65,000 casks.
Although Bourbon casks are a pillar for the Dalmore, it is not limited to a single cask type. Among their Bourbon casks stored, there are Sherry, Port and even Matusalem casks, some dating back over 50 years.
